A Monday Liturgy | April 6, 2020

Opening

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you as the day rises to meet the sun.

Glory to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

With you, O Lord, is the well of life : and in your light, we see light.

Psalm 36:5-10

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
    your judgments are like the great deep;
    man and beast you save, O Lord.

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
    The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
    and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light.

Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you,
    and your righteousness to the upright of heart!

With you, O Lord, is the well of life : and in your light, we see light.

Mark 14:3-9 | Jesus Anointed at Bethany

And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”

Prayer

Father,

While we sat in darkness, you interrupted us with new life in Christ. Make us, your people, a holy interruption so that by your Spirit’s power, we may live as a light to our neighbors and the nations, even as we stumble through this world’s dark night.

Amen.

Benediction

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you wherever he may send you;
may he guide you through the wildness, protect you through the storm;
may he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you;
may he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
