A Way to Help | Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2021
As many of you may know, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). For the past few years, The Village has lent a distinctly Christian voice to this reality for the good of our church community and our local community. This has largely taken the form of an in-person event with speakers, panels, and more to raise awareness and offer help.
This year, we’re doing something a little different. We’re creating an opportunity to act and participate in the care and healing of survivors like me and so many others you know. Lindsay Brashear has created an Amazon Wishlist of essentials and coping items to pack together for Women Help Women (WHW), a non-profit organization that’s a three-minute walk from The 210. Advocates from WHW have attended our previous seminars and been so excited and appreciative to see people of faith showing up, having this conversation, and actually caring for and loving people.
Our goal is to gather enough donations to have a small event for packing these items together and bringing them to WHW on the evening of Wednesday, April 28th. We would love your help! WHW will give these supplies to survivors who reach out for assistance, arrive at the hospital for rape kits, have to appear in court, etc.
To donate, please take a look at the link below. If you already have similar items on hand, we would be happy to accept them. There’s a box for physical donations located next to the Connect Desk right inside The 210.
Reach out to Lindsay Brashear, Angie Dicken, or Scott O’Donohoe if you have any questions. Thanks!
